Course Summary

Course:  WB4269
CE Expiration:  10/04/2021, 11:59 PM (ET)
Available CE:  CME, CNE, CEU, CPH, CHES

The goal of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of physicians and other healthcare providers about the adverse health impacts due to climate change. It will provide resources to healthcare providers they may not be aware of to help educate and prepare patients for extreme weather events. This module begins by providing an overview of climate change, including the definition of climate, climate change and Greenhouse Effect, as well as identifying key gases that negatively impact this natural process. Mental, emotional and physical health impacts will be explored, as well as the potential relationship of negative birth outcomes. Hurricane Maria and its impact on Puerto Rico is used as a case study to demonstrate the impact of climate change and its impact on children. By enhancing and re-enforcing their knowledge, physicians and other healthcare providers can better assess patients, specifically children and pregnant women who are more vulnerable to negative health effects due to climate change.
