  •   MRSA 101: Overview of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia

Provides background information on the impact MRSA has on patients, the pathogenesis of MRSA and strategies to prevent MRSA bacteremia.  This module sets the stage for the subsequent modules in this course.

  • MRSA 102:  MRSA Risk Assessment and Monitoring

Discusses the importance of conducting a MRSA risk assessment to prioritize MRSA prevention strategies, what data to use in the MRSA risk assessment and how to use the risk assessment to drive MRSA prevention actions.

  • MRSA 103: Identification and Prevention of MRSA Transmission

Identifies strategies that can be used to reduce MRSA transmission in hospitals. This module also discusses the advantages of horizontal infection prevention strategies and the importance of adhering to recommendations and best practices. This module builds off of the information discussed in the foundational infection prevention strategies Hand Hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment, Environmental Cleaning, and Patient and Family Engagement.

 

  • MRSA 201: Using the Guide to Patient Safety (GPS) to Assess MRSA Prevention Efforts

Discusses how to conduct a needs assessment using a MRSA Guide to Patient Safety and Targeted Assessment for Prevention (TAP) to evaluate possible barriers to implementation of MRSA bacteremia prevention strategies.  This module is a pivot point between the Tier 1 basic MRSA prevention strategies, and Tier 2 enhanced and intensive MRSA prevention strategies.

  • MRSA 202: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Prevention Tier 2 Interventions

Outlines the Tier 2 enhanced MRSA prevention strategies and how to implement these more complex interventions.  These strategies include implementing daily chlorhexidine bathing for at-risk populations, decolonizing patients colonized with MRSA, performing Active Surveillance Testing for high-risk patient populations and implementing gowning and gloving for all ICU patients.
