The CE Deadline has been updated to November 5, 2022.
The 2016 CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain is in the process of being updated to include new evidence and recommendations on acute, subacute, and chronic pain. The updated clinical practice guideline is intended to help improve communication between healthcare professionals and patients and empower them to make informed, patient-centered decisions related to safer and effective pain care.
The goal of this training is to discuss the importance of building a collaborative relationship between the patient and provider in order to support shared decision making. This training activity will also show what can happen when there is a lack of concordance between a patient and their provider, as well as show how providers can work with their patients to optimize benefits and minimize harms of long-term opioid therapy. Finally, this training will clarify when it is appropriate to coordinate care with mental health care providers and other specialists so as to achieve the most positive patient outcomes.
Please refer to the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain for additional information as needed during this training.
