These Grand Rounds presentations are provided as a courtesy of CDC’s Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship (PMR/F) program with the goal of sharing concrete examples of applying systems-based approaches and leadership practices to population health interventions in a broad range of diseases and health conditions.

Ever wonder why there are not more outbreaks of foodborne illness in health department inspected restaurants and festivals? Why there are fewer incidents of adults getting sick or kids drowning in health department-inspected pools? Why mosquito-borne illness doesn’t routinely sweep through the U.S. each summer? Environmental health practice encompasses the places we live, work, and play. Like much public health work, the herculean efforts of environmental health practitioners are often not appreciated until prevention has failed.

In this presentation, Dr. Neri will help preventive medicine learners understand the fundamental aspects of environmental health practice and the issues that surround their day-to-day work.
