The Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies) provide a framework that reflects foundational or crosscutting skills for professionals engaging in the practice, education, and research of public health. The Core Competencies are widely used by health departments and academic institutions in workforce development, yet room for increased utilization persists. Across the TRAIN Learning Network, course providers are not consistently using the Core Competencies in their course offerings. Additionally, the Core Competencies have recently been revised to address current public health workforce needs.

View this panel discussion which explored applications of the Core Competencies in public health workforce development, how TRAIN is used in these efforts, and the anticipated impact the (then) soon-to-be-released 2021 version will have on these practices.
