The CE Deadline has been updated to November 5, 2022.

The 2016 CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain is in the process of being updated to include new evidence and recommendations on acute, subacute, and chronic pain. The updated clinical practice guideline is intended to help improve communication between healthcare professionals and patients and empower them to make informed, patient-centered decisions related to safer and effective pain care.

The goal of this training is to identify and consider the ways in which nurses, medical assistants, and other members of an integrated healthcare team can support implementation of the recommendations found in the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain. This training activity will familiarize learners with the recommendations found in the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain, and will specifically address how nurses can support their implementation. This will include strategies for communication, assessment, and quality improvement. Interactive patient scenarios will be used to both present information and provide practice in applying it.

Please refer to the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain for additional information as needed during this training.
