Module 3: Site information and Data Gathering is the third online module in a series of eight about the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)’s methodology, known as the public health assessment (PHA) process to evaluate exposure to hazardous substances.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of Module 3, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of obtaining relevant information for the PHA.
  2. Identify when you should gather site information and data.
  3. List steps to obtain and document site information and data.
  4. Identify facts about the Gala Lumber Company (GLC) Site (a case study).
  5.  Name potential information sources for the GLC site PHA.
  6. List types of data needed to conduct the PHA.
  7. Identify common sources of data for the PHA.
  8. Discuss measures to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the community.
  9. List ATSDR’s partners and stakeholders that the health assessor should collaborate with to obtain relevant data for the public health assessment.

This educational activity is appropriate for public health professionals involved or interested in the environmental health assessment process, including Environmental Health Specialists, Toxicologists, Epidemiologists, Medical Officers, Registered Nurses, Health Educators, Community Involvement Specialists, Health Communicators, and Program Managers.

Materials

Course participation is via the Internet. Attendees need computer Hardware, Internet connection, a browser, and access to the Word and Adobe programs.

Continuing Education Contact Hours for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES):

Sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
